INTRO

The Making of Chinahouse is a good example of how I make architectural imagery in Vue.

I had originally planned "Villaggio" to be the image to show, but it turned out that "Chinahouse" was much better for the purpose...

THE BEGINNING

I started by creating this simple model. It helped me establish the PoV* and tune the composition.

Nothing fancy... just the basic shapes.

ADDING MORE DETAIL

Then I went on by adding more details. Windows, pots, handles, lamps, drainpipes, etc.

I like starting with no textures, but when I've already textured the model the way I want it to be (like the bike) I will of course keep the textures when I import it...

LIGHTING

I took a different path with Chinahouse and did most of the lighting work before creating the textures.

I don't know why - it's by far not the best way of doing lighting... It did, though, turn out to work quite well.

TEXTURES

I really wanted the textures to look real so all the photos I've used were very high-quality.

They consist of several layers and I put a lot of work into making them look real and dirty.

ADDING THE VEGETATION

One of the last things to do was to add the vegetation. Most of them are created by myself and a few are from the internet.

I also added some roughness to the walls and added the wires in the background.

FINISHED!

The scene is now finished.
A larger version can be found in the Architectural Gallery.
